Coffee addicts Coffeephile would definitely have tried out Espresso Lab at least once. That we can vouch.

Just newly opened in Avenue K alongside Urbean and Witches & Brew, Espresso Lab sport their signature outlook of black interior decoration topped with big, bold red + white lettering of their pride.

Not a huge fan of coffee (except for Vietnamese coffee!), gNOMe 2 straight away went for the desserts instead. Hence, 3 cakes but only 2 cups of coffee.

Iced Latte
Iced Latte

The latte was alright, albeit a little bit strong on the espresso side. Usually made with 66% steamed milk and 33% espresso (to balance the sweetness from the steamed milk) and a foam of milk, lattes are for those who prefer a ‘heavier’ coffee drink but still with a hint of milk. RM12 a cup.

Cappuccino on the other hand is usually made out of 33% steamed milk, 33% espresso and 33% milk foam, cappuccinos are perfect if you do not want to much a dose of caffeine. The cappuccino was pretty good, not too sweet from the amount of milk, but would prefer it thicker. RM12 a cup.

Now, to the desserts! *I suck at coffee

Crepes!
Crepes!

Nutella Mille Crepe
Nutella Mille Crepe

Priced at RM14 a slice, Nutella Mille Crepe is the most sought after dessert at Espresso Lab. This mille crepe is not like the usual mille crepe. Since it is made out of nutella, you can expect the ‘body‘ of this dessert to be ‘heavy‘. If you are looking for something light and fluffy, stay away from this. First few mouthfuls were heavenly, but afterwards, it became rather a challenge to finish it.

Tiramisu
Tiramisu

The nuts on the tiramisu (RM12) were pretty generous. Yummy, fresh, crunchy nuts accompanying every bite. First bite proved to me that this dessert was a let down. It lacks coffee. It’s like they skimp on the coffee. The balance in the batter was acceptable, but once you skimp on the coffee, it can no longer be referred to as Tiramisu.

Red Velvet Cake
Red Velvet Cake

Don’t blame me if this looks unappetizing! The Red Velvet Cake (RM12) gave me a shock of my life. It’s spongy! NO!

Red velvet cakes are not supposed to be spongy. It’s an abomination to my favourite cake. 😦 Red velvets are supposed to be moist and this lacks terribly. It’s like eating sponge cake with cream cheese on top. Meh. Was super disappointed.

Anyhow, Espresso Lab has tea time promotions from 3pm – 6pm.

1 slice of cake + 1 cup of coffee = RM18.90

Verdict : Please spend your moolah elsewhere for better desserts. Coffee wise, perhaps you can give it a go 🙂
