This place was first introduced to us by a friend who happened to drive by Awesome Canteen one fine day. Taking advantage of the New Year, both gNOMes and a good friend have decided to check this place out for lunch. Pretty gutsy to be naming your place AWESOME huh?
Opened by a bunch of creative director and graphic designers, this place is roughly 1 month plus old. So old collectibles and furniture will welcome you when you step in. More inclined towards the modern vintage side. Heck, even the waiters there wear really vintage glass frames.
The ambiance inside is perfect if you just want to chill with your friends and relax. It is well ventilated and bright. But it might get too noisy if the guests are chatty. They play covers of famous hits, gNOMe 2 was particularly pleased when she heard a jazzy cover of ‘Pumped Up Kicks‘ serenading the customers.
Look! Such a pretty ol’ school bar counter!
Menu’s clipped to a clipboard, flip ’em pages and order away!
Hot Americano (RM6)
Famed for their home made patties, poppy seed buns and herb tinged fries, burgers served here are apparently in Klang Valley’s Top 10 list!
Mushroom Swiss Cheese Chicken Burger (RM 16.90). Our friend ordered this and mentioned that the burger was tasty, with a generous amount of cheese and mushroom. Beats Burger King’s hands down.
gNOMe 2 was feeling a little bit adventurous that day, so Sambal Beef Burger (RM18.90) it is! And oh, one can opt for chicken patty instead at a dollar or two cheaper. Beef patty with home made sambal and deep fried anchovies together with melted cheese. The whole package is indeed delectable, but the combination of sambal and melted cheese might be a bit on the salty side. It is indeed note worthy that the ingredients used are fresh. Poppy seed buns are yums!
Being big fans of blue cheese, the Rocky Blue Cheese Beef Burger is a must order. Topped with fresh rockets and tomatoes, the melted blue cheese and beef patty once again, makes a decent combination. But similar to Sambal Burger, it tends to get a little bit too salty. The blue cheese was however delightful.
Awesome canteen also serves ‘Paleo Burgers’ for the diet strict peeps. Instead of poppy seed buns, they replaced it with omelette and sauteed mushroom. Talk about healthy!
Hot Honey Lemon (RM5.50) for those looking for a refreshing drink. A little bit on the pricey side but nevertheless, generous on the honey.
Verdict : We love the ambiance. Burger fans should pay this place a visit to try out with ‘fusion‘ burgers. Whether to just enjoy the burgers, chill out with friends, or just to admire the old school decor, this is a nice place to visit with friends. Perhaps if the burgers were less salty, then it would be more enjoyable.
