Revisit : White House Kitchen, Kota Damansara [CLOSED DOWN]

Remember when we said how much we were impressed by their passion to continue to strive and improve the menu? Read ’em here! Two months down the road and now, their revamped menu boasts several latest additions, mainly the Signature Flaming Sticky Pork Ribs (RM36.80), Classic American Pork Chop (RM24.80), Route 66 Over Roasted Pork Belly (RM28.80) and Porky’s Pork Burger (RM28.80). White House Kitchen is now non-halal (Yay or Nay depends on perspective)!

So both gNOMes were uber thrilled to be invited for a review, good food awaiting!

The Blue Curacao Citrus (RM6.90) thirst quencher drink. Indeed living up to its’ name! A combination of blue syrup + sprite, this is the drink to look for if one needs to down something cooling, yet nothing too fancy. Plain ‘ol Sprite mixed with syrup, lightly sweetened. Refreshing indeed and good to wash down all those burgers and nachos!

And then, our starters came!

A plate of nachos! Did anybody say CHIPS? 😀

The chef’s special, Sombrero : Nacho’s With Cheese (RM 17.90) is a huge plate of nachos topped with chilli con carne, cheese! and Jalapeno pickles, served with very special home made cheese dip. It’s a cheesy affair! The nachos, fresh from the oven with melted cheese on top, was enough to get gNOMe 1 drooling. gNOMe 2 on the other hand, was never a big fan of chips in particular.

gNOMe 1 started to chomp down the nachos, while gesturing to gNOMe 2, ‘Try it. It’s good!’. gNOMe 2 took a mouthful, and boy, the nachos were yummy! Overloaded with cheese and chilli con carne coupled with crunchy nachos, every bite was a bliss. Even without trying out the cheese dip and before the other dishes arrived, this was already good enough to be a clear winner for the night!

Our main came right after. Both gNOMes decided to share the Signature Flaming Sticky Pork Ribs (RM36.80). The huge piece of rib was laid before our eyes, with Mr Sanjeev standing nearby with a wine glass.

‘What’s that?’

‘Oh that’s Sambucca. To ignite the ribs. Literally’.

AWESOME WE SAY! So Mr Sanjeev lit up the alcohol and proceeded to pour the Sambucca all over the ribs. This gesture alone was enough to entice us.

Woohoo! Ribs on fire! 😀 And oh, if you are wondering, Sambucca is an Italian anise-flavoured liquor and flavoured with essential oils that are obtained from spices such as star anise, anise, liquorice and elderflowers.

As the blue flames settled, we waited for a few seconds before digging in! The pork ribs come with roasted vegetables (potatoes, carrots, peppers), mashed potatoes and fries. The ribs very fresh, tender and very juicy, which rather surprised us because most flaming ribs we had are usually pretty tough due to overcooking. One swipe of the knife cuts off the meat from the ribs, revealing tender flesh. Palatable! Marination was done 24 hours prior to grilling, allowing the marination to sit and seep into the ribs. Ribs were packed with marination goodness, coupled with the ‘oomph‘ that the Sambucca gives, this dish is a delish!

Though both gNOMes do think that this dish contains too much potatoes, but we gave the thumbs up to their mashed potatoes. Very lightly seasoned, the mashed potatoes actually retain its original flavouring, tasting rather earthy and creamy. Good, old conventional way of eating potatoes. Can always do without heavily seasoned mashed potatoes no? 🙂

The only downside to the dish was the excessive amount of potato variety for the gNOMes, but each to his/her own right? Apparently it is a culture in some parts of the world to just have tonnes of chips and potatoes in a dish, where rice is not the main source of carbs. But in Malaysia, rice = our carb source.

Verdict : Overall, the gNOMes are impressed with the manner in which the restaurant has transformed their menu and continued to improve. We can’t wait to actually go and try the new PizzaBurger (which is patty and fillings and house-special pizza sauce wrapped in light pizza dough!). And oh, if you are nearby during lunch hours, please stop by! They have attractive set lunch deals. Let us know what you think. Lastly, we can’t thank White House Kitchen enough for such hospitality and great food!
