Fried Durian Fritters, Restoran Wah Cai, TUTA, Johor Bahru

Hi fellow gNOMes, while gNOMe 1 is from Johor Bahru, he never realized a real gem that has been there in his “backyard”. He was introduced to it by a friend’s mother (and they weren’t from Johor Bahru!). Behold, Fried Durian Fritters!

Doesn’t sound convincing? Neither was gNOMe 1 at first as he is very wary of fake durian. *Ahem* Dodol *ahem* yes I’m talking about you, Dodol!! Looking at the shop, gNOMe 1 wasn’t really entirely convinced at first. Why? Because there was no sign of any durians. So we ordered just 5 pieces per pax.

seems like "yau char guai"

But one bite of it, gNOMe 1 was hooked… and starting eating more n eventually buying 10 more! The batter and the durian don’t stick together so you don’t get it being all gooey and soggy even when it gets cold. The durian flavor is authentic and the aroma is thick. Nothing but the bitter-sweet taste of heaven. As you can see from the picture, each piece is priced at RM2.50, so prepare your wallets, durian lovers!

When you take a pack home, the auntie there will advise you not to tie up the plastic bag. This is so the fritters will not lose their crispiness, thus ensuring your other loved ones will get to enjoy the same taste you enjoy! But this also means your car will end up filled with the aroma (or stench, if you hate durian!) of durian!

Verdict: This is the real deal. Tastes like real durian and probably uses real durian as well. Definitely worth the money you pay per piece if you love durians!
