One doesn’t simply stumble upon a cafe + a furniture store combo. Located at The Strand, Kota Damansara, Wood & Steel sells coffee and food and at the same time, show cases their furnitures for sale. How interesting.
Positioned right above the cafe is a gallery of rather interesting wood and steel furnitures (duh!) for sale. The gNOMes caught wind that W&S supplies those furnitures to Sri Hartamas’ Podgy and The Banker. But the gNOMes are there for the food!
A wide array of coffee and food for one’s selection with food mainly ranging from RM5-RM20 tops. Coffee’s priced between RM6 to RM11.
Iced Mocha (RM11) and Iced Latte (RM10). Iced coffees tasted pretty decent though, but lacking the coffee touch. Unfortunately it wasn’t one of our favorite coffee places. The gNOMes would recommend trying other places if one purely wants coffee.
While waiting for our food, both gNOMes decided to have a look around the place and indeed, such a hipster and cozy place to just hang or chill on a lazy Sunday.
An old wooden chair and a microphone. With random abstract painting.
Seafood Carbonara (RM17). The pasta was slightly dry, with roughly 4 pieces of prawns and 1 mussel. Though the seafood was rather fresh, but the gNOMes felt the pasta was a little bit on the pricey side, not exactly worth what is what priced at.
Salmon Scrambled Egg (RM10). A rather hearty breakfast, the gNOMes must agree. Scrambled eggs have always been our comfort food, done slightly on the ‘wet’ side, with generous bits of salmon and seasoned nicely. This dish comes with 2 lightly toasted bread with cranberry jam. Rather palatable and quite a good bargain. The salmon gave the dish a nice touch of savoury and a good balance to the peppered scrambled eggs. The bread was a little soft, nevertheless the dish overall was good.
Pulled Chicken Sandwich (RM12) with side chips. The pulled sandwich was rather dry, and bland. Though the chips were fairly decent, but both gNOMes would avoid this dish if they return.
Stuffed Chicken With Cheese (RM20). The chicken was juicy enough. The cherry tomatoes were a little soggy, nevertheless the dip made this dish worth eating. The cheese wasn’t too overwhelming and just the right amount of “cheesy”, making this quite an enjoyable one.
Verdict : Nothing above RM20. Our pick would definitely be the Salmon Scrambled Egg and the Stuffed Chicken with Cheese. If you are purely looking for coffee, we suggest trying another place. Go for the ambiance, if not for anything else, and the gallery upstairs has some interesting furniture.
