Bad Boy Cooks, Setiawalk, Puchong

yups, flipped on purpose 🙂

Bad Boy Cooks Real Food. Such is a rather interesting and catchy tagline one eatery may hold. Intrigued by that tagline, gNOMe 2 was eager to try out what Bad Boy Cooks have to offer. Newly opened in Setiawalk, Puchong, Bad Boy Cooks brings American-ish Style Cuisine to Malaysians. First outlet is at Oasis Ara Damansara, this humble eatery is their 2nd in Malaysia.

Walls painted red and white, steel tables with intertwined black and white tiles, this restaurant really resembles a typical American Diner. So now who’s up for some burgers and fish and chips?

Bad Boy Wings (RM6). Fried chicken wings laced with sweet and spicy sauce. 3 pieces of wings in a basket. The chicken wings felt slightly overcooked, slightly chewy. But nevertheless, gNOMe 2 loved the sweet and spicy sauce, and the wings would be a blast if they are cooked just right. A recommended appetizer.

Country Mushrooms (RM6) and Italian Tomato (RM6). gNOMe 2’s pick? The Italian Tomato. Pretty generous in tomatoes, with a rather thick texture and flavourful base.

Bad Boy Mash (RM4). Lightly seasoned mashed potatoes with onion gravy. Mashed potatoes were seasoned with just pepper and salt, and the onion gravy complemented the potatoes. At least the gravy is home made and not from any instant mash potato gravy paste.

Bad Boy Caesar (RM8). Lightly tossed romaine lettuce with beef bacon, 1/2 of a hard boiled egg and sprinkled cheese. A good starter for those wanting green before their main course arrives. Greens were fresh, beef bacons were crunchy.

Chilli Nachos (RM6). Nachos chips with chilli con carne. A snack to munch on while catching up with friends and waiting for the main course to arrive. Chilli con carne was done nicely, came out hot on top of a bed of nachos.

Chilli Fries (RM6). Another snack one may munch on while chatting away. But be mindful to eat this quick as the fries may be soggy in no time. Eat it while it’s hot! Yums!

Cajun Chicken (RM12). Grilled chicken with coleslaw and mashed potatoes. The portion is rather generous, 2 pieces of seasoned chicken thigh, seasoned and grilled nicely. The Cajun Chicken is one of Bad Boy Cooks’ must try.

Tempura Fish (RM10). Battered fish fillet with coleslaw and fries. gNOMe 2 must say that the Tempura Fish is pretty yummy! The batter is light and crunchy, with a generous amount of fish. Not too overpowering, just nice to make one wanting for more. And the best part? The Tempura Fish is totally not oily! 😀 Another chef’s recommendation.

Spaghetti Al Funghi (RM9). Creamy pasta with assorted mushrooms and beef bacon bits. Pasta was a little bit soft, and the cream base a little too heavy for gNOMe 2’s liking. But nevertheless, the pasta is rather decent.

BB Dog (RM9). Chicken hot dog with sauteed mushrooms and onions with fries. Chicken sausage in a hot dog bun topped with mushrooms that are very lightly sauteed and seasoned with raw diced onions. Overall the BB Dog is a rather decent hot dog at a reasonable price.

Fire Bird (RM9). Chicken burger + coleslaw + fries. A layer of spicy chilli mayo is spread between the patty and the bun giving the burger a spicy yet sour twang to it. Bear in mind that the spicy chilli mayo is rather spicy, which is in line with its’ name Fire Bird.

Grilled Fish (RM12). Your typical grilled fish topped with cream gravy. gNOMe 2’s take? A safe choice for those who don’t feel adventurous that day. A rather safe bet.

Double BB (RM13). Two beef patties instead of one for the hungry!

Grilled Lamb (RM19). gNOMe 2 felt that the lamb was overcooked, causing the game to be a little bit chewy. It was also a little bit too dry for gNOMe 2’s liking, but the seasoning was done decently.

BB Chilli Dog (RM12). Chicken Hot Dog + Chilli Con Carne + Cheese. If you like it messy and sloppy, this hot dog is for you. The chilli con carne goes very well with the chicken hot dog, but bear in mind to eat it quick, the buns might turn a little soggy after some time.

Bad Boy Madness (RM19). Trust me dessert lovers, you will literally beg for this! It’s a very SINFUL plate of  :

  • Chocolate Chip Cookie
  • Chocolate Brownie
  • Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie
  • 3 Scoops of Chocolate Ice Cream
  • Banana Split Sundae
  • Chocolate Sprinkles
  • Whipped Cream
  • Chocolate Syrup

THIS IS MADNESS! Such much chocolate on one plate. Surprisingly, the cookies were pretty soft, prod it with your spoon and it will break nicely into pieces. Scoop ’em up with the brownies and ice cream and wait for the explosion in your mouth! Great Chocolatey Taste 😀

Affogato Shake (RM8). Milk shakes are commonly found in American Diners, rest be assured that there are milk shakes for orders here at Bad Boy Cooks. The coffee wasn’t too strong, the milk shake is slightly more milky. Nevertheless, a good complement for a hearty meal.

Verdict : Price wise, this place gets the thumbs up. One can possibly have a fuss free meal below RM10. Portion may be a tad small for big eaters, order an appetizer to begin your meal with or end it with the Bad Boy Madness. Food wise, some would need improvement, some were pretty yums. Looking for a fuss free, affordable and a nice meal with family or friends? This is a place to be.
