Another NOM place has just appeared. Welcoming Wondermama X to Avenue K, those working around that vicinity has one more NOM place to add to their list.
When both gNOMes stepped into the premise, the decor reminded both gNOMes of Miam Miam. Nevertheless, having only opened 5 days ago, patrons may still spot a cordoned off area which we believe is still under minor constructions.
Also, since Wondermama X is still very new, they have roughly 10 mains offered right now. The remaining dishes will come on board starting July 2014.
Nasi Lemak 2.0 (RM16.90). A plate of fragrant nasi lemak with sambal petai prawn, kangkung, kacang (peanuts), ikan bilis (anchovies), egg and Japanese styled fried chicken. Initially it didn’t look like much, the gNOMes really did not expect anything from this dish. Turns out that the manis (sweet) type sambal (chili paste) gave a very interesting and fragrant taste. The chicken was also served in fairly generous portions. Overall a good dish, the only complaint being that the petai is way too small in portions.
Pasta A La Carbonara (RM23.90). Some fusion spaghetti there! A combination of spaghetti carbonara with teriyaki chicken topped with cucumber. The spaghetti had a good texture, almost al dente, and the rich carbonara cream gave it a pleasant fragrance. Teriyaki Chicken surprisingly fit the dish quite well. Although the gNOMes would note that this dish is slightly on the salty side.
Durian Crepe + Ice Cream (RM9.50). This is actually a surprisingly refreshing dessert. The durian taste, although mostly synthetic, was actually enough to be called a “durian” dessert. However the layer of crepe encasing the durian cream was too thick and hard to pry open. The gNOMes were looking like barbarians trying to tear it open with 2 spoons. *blush*
Verdict : Overall this place has some potential. Most of the menu isn’t ready as of yet, but they do have some fairly tasty food. But perhaps this may be due to having quite a bit of MSG, as was evidenced in the fact that the gNOMes were thirsty all the way home, finishing up a 1.5-L bottle. However once their restaurant goes into full swing come July, do not hesitate to give it a visit, especially if one craves Malaysian/fusion cuisine.
