Opened just barely 3 weeks ago, PJ now plays host to brand new cafe that specializes in crepes. Crepes you say? You, crepe lovers, will know where to get your hands on these!
Introduced by a good friend, Spicy Sharon, both gNOMes headed over to Strangers at 47 for crepes. Who has crepes for dinner anyways? WE DO! 😀
Located at the same row as Kanna Curry House, Strangers at 47 isn’t all that hard to find. On first look, it seems to be a nice place, with friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere overall. The irony of it all is the word “strangers” as there seems to be an endless stream of customers who seem to know someone who works at or owns the restaurant.
Matcha Latte (RM 10). Brewed at the optimum temperature, filled with rich milky goodness. The aroma within the tea leaves fall nicely on the palate and leaves a great impression. The whole mixture of it all topped off with sweetness.
Sweet Potatoes Fries (RM7). A healthier alternative, we’d say. The potatoes were very lightly salted and upon eating it, seems like a very normal dish. However the more one eats it, the more it starts to grow on you. The natural sweetness of the sweet potato seemingly making for an interesting side.
Now over to the crepes! Sweet crepes are generally made with wheat flour while savoury crepes are usually made with buckwheat flour. Sweet crepes are commonly found in breakfast and dessert menus whereas savoury crepes are suitable for lunch and dinner.
Shore to Please (RM21.50). A plate of savoury crepe, packed with cajun tiger prawns, battered squid, salted egg yolk, spinach, caramelized onions and roasted cherry tomatoes. The crepe was beautifully made, with a tender yet springy texture. The prawns were well seasoned, the combination of herbs stood out with every bite. Battered squid and bits and pieces of salted egg yolk is scattered everywhere, which pleases the palates with every single bite. The caramelized onions and spinach just complemented the whole dish. If there was any complaint about the dish was that the freshness of the prawns were slightly inconsistent. Some very fresh, while some others tasted less fresh. Overall, this dish is indeed ‘Shore to Please’ your palates.
Go Bananuts (RM13). Sweet crepe with chocolate peanut spread, caramelized bananas, raspberry coulis, crushed peanuts and vanilla ice cream. What more can we say? Bananas, nuts, and chocolate make for a winning combination. Add on the vanilla ice-cream and this dish really comes to life. The presentation was good and the crepe skin was thick enough to hold together yet not too thick as to steal the focus away from the fillings. A great way to end the meal in our opinion.
Verdict : A great place to try out. One should make a point to go there. Friendly and responsive staff, good food, nice atmosphere. If there was any complaint, it was that the gNOMes could do with slightly cheaper prices on the menu. Other than that, it’s all good. 😀
