The queue snaked from the counter to the main door and then curved towards the inner portion of the rather humble, small shop. That’s how A Pie Thing greeted us when we first stepped in. Judging from the name, it is not a wonder if one can guess correctly that this place sells hot, steaming pies, fresh from the oven.
No 215. Chuncky Beef Steak.
No. 216. Ayam Percik.
Shouts of ready orders filled the eatery, with most people chattering away over dinner. The interior is rather small, with most patrons chilling away and hogging seats even right after their meals. Want to grab a seat? Try to arrive as early as possible.
One thing gNOMe 2 loves about this place, it’s the huge Broadway inspired signage that screams ‘A Pie Thing’. Big and bright enough to be noticed while you are on the LDP.
6 of us arrived at around 7pm and most pies are already sold out to hungry customers.
Was looking forward to the Pulled Lamb but unfortunately, we had to wait another hour for the fresh pies to come out from the oven. So we went with the Ayam Percik, Chilli Cheese and Chunky Steak orders instead.
The Mashacre (RM16.90) is how one should eat their pies, a pie of your choice with mashed peas, mashed potatoes and topped it off with gravy. The mashed potatoes were decent and had a topping of sauce. However the sauce didn’t give off a special impression, as it tasted like the typical run-of-the-mill machine-processed sauce.
A slice of Pie of your choice + Mashed Potatoes + Gravy at RM14.90 each.
Pie of your choice topped with gravy at RM12.90 each.
Leonidas Choco Latte (RM14.90). Leonidas is a well known Belgian chocolate brand imported from Brussels with an assortment of Belgian chocolate ranging from prelines, truffles, orange peel to marzipan. Served with warm milk, a slab of beautiful Belgian chocolate is dipped and stirred with the warm milk. The aftermath? A yummy and very soothing warm chocolate milk to pair with your pies. Truly adds a classy feel to the drink.
Verdict : Overall the winner for the day was the Ayam Percik, which brought a Malaysian taste to the whole variety. The Chunky Steak was equally yummy, with bits of beef overflowing with gravy. The pie crusts were thick, which could be a plus for many, but not a preference for some. This place is generally one for novelty. If you want your quick pie fix, give it a try here. We heard that Pulled Lamb is yums, tell us what do you think if you manage to get your hands on one!
