A chain of upscale grocery store which originates in 1977 from lower Manhattan has taken Asia by storm since the year 2003. Opening their first international chain in Tokyo in 2003, Dean & Deluca continued to expand their Asian operation with the addition of flagship stores in Korea (2011), Thailand (2011) and Singapore (2013).
Dean & Deluca have yet to penetrate into the Malaysian market.
Revered as a hub for the discovery of new culinary trends and little known culinary traditions, Dean & Deluca is the only brand that has the cultural status and global brand awareness to be the defining food brand in gourmet food around the world. Besides selling kitchen necessities, Dean & Deluca also concentrates on serving gourmet food.
So, here comes the gNOMes! 😀
Hunt for your favourite tea bags here or just grab a macaroon to go!
We had the Coffee Latte at 120 Baht. With the color looking really promising, after a few sips, the coffee was just alright. Not the best we have tried, yet not too shabby.
A wide variety of macaroons, truffles, and chocolates to choose from. Soothing to the eyes!
In order to save tummy space for more Thai food goodness, we decided to go with only one main course. Wagyu Beef Meatloaf (250 Baht) which is the bestseller there. Minced up wagyu beef with garlic, thyme, parsley and roasted onion ketchup glaze. Truth to be told, this portion going for RM25 is way too little for 1 big appetite diner. What more 2!
On the side note, the wagyu beef was nicely seasoned, one can taste the rather distinctive seasoning used. Meatloaf was nicely done, baked just right, thus it was still moist, juicy and full of flavour when served. But gNOMe 2’s take? Using WAGYU BEEF for meatloaf is an abomination :O
A new addition into their dessert section. Chocolate Beer Cake at 145 Baht. That’s rather steep for a slice of cake, but perhaps once having a mouthful, all can be justified. Our dessert fork had trouble slicing through the cake, it all crumbled down at the slightest force. Cake was too dry for our liking, though it had a subtle beer flavour which was interesting. But still, nothing to shout about.
Verdict : Main course was delightful, but the dessert was a let down. Having said that, paying for a steep price raises our expectations on their food. So both gNOMes left Dean & Deluca pretty disappointed, after all the HOO HAA. Nevertheless, we would suggest patrons try out their MahaNakhon outlet as we have read and browsed through more varieties on main meals served there, which looks more promising that this one.
