Corona Del Mar, The Strand, Kota Damansara

So the gNOMes were in the mood for some good Western food. When Corona Del Mar appeared on Groupon, the gNOMes thought that it was a sign. Finally a place we haven’t thought of.

The place had the look of a good restaurant from the outside. There was a decent amount of people around as well. So the gNOMes were excited.

A plus point for this place is that it is pork-free, which is a good sign for our Muslim readers. The gNOMes decided to sample some of the dishes in order to find out if it is worth going for.

Sautéed Mushrooms [RM12]

When this came, it smelled rather fragrant. But on first bite, the mushrooms were actually kind of salty. That was the thing the gNOMes agreed on. Other than that, the texture of the mushrooms were actually alright.

Roasted Potatoes [RM6]

This was the major disappointment. Since the gNOMes actually love potatoes. The roasted potatoes were not at a good texture. Many of them turned out to be rather dry, which undid any of the good work done on the seasoning.

Risotto Pollo Al Funghi [RM25]

This was the one dish that sounded really attractive. Unfortunately perhaps due to the lack of suitable white wine substitutes, it wasn’t as fragrant as the gNOMes would have expected it to be. It wasn’t something that the gNOMes enjoyed very much. Nevertheless perhaps it is just personal preference.

Charred Grilled Moroccan Chicken [RM23]

This dish was actually the saving grace of the meal. The sauce was quite alright, and the chicken was sufficiently juicy and nicely grilled, albeit nothing much to shout about. Greens were pretty fresh, the fries were just, fries. There are certainly room for improvements, but this makes a rather decent choice.

Verdict : The gNOMes were actually really disappointed as we were expecting it to be quite the feast. Perhaps it was because we used the Groupon that they may have compromised? We will never know because the gNOMes wouldn’t be going back there anytime soon.
