Hokano, Damansara Uptown, PJ

Hello foodies! *waves 😀

Once again, we truly apologized for the lack of updates. Work has actually sent gNOMe 1 to the Middle East and gNOMe 2, China. Interesting food, awesome cultures no doubt! But we both still miss and love our Malaysian cuisine dearly.

On a side note, should we change to .com? Hmmm.

Anyway, this is a longggggg overdue post. Had this sometime back in July this year, only had the chance to blog about it right now. Our apologies!

Hokano

Hokano has been around Damansara Uptown for the longest time ever. 10 years and still counting. Used to be situated facing LDP, Hokano has now relocated and it’s just right behind where it used to be. Staunch followers of Hokano have professed their love and raved over and over again how delicious the Japanese food here is.

Cheers to the new basement parking now at Damansara Uptown! Parking has never been such a breeze 🙂

Agedashi Tofu [RM7]

Aged tofu deep fried until golden brown. The texture outside was crispy, not too soggy and the tofu instead, smooth and silky. The soy sauce and tempura veggie was a nice touch to the tofus. Have this as your starter.

Salmon Avocado Roll [RM6.50]

The avocado was at the right ripeness, soft and creamy texture. The combination of salmon and avocado will never go wrong, it is indeed a safe bet for avocado and salmon lovers.

Salmon Sashimi [RM21]

Thick salmon cuts, fresh and succulent, yes, no doubt. But we felt that it was a little bit on the pricey side comparing to those one can get their hands on at Sushi Zanmai.

Spider Roll [RM21]

Again, we found this to be on the pricey side as compared to other sushi joints. But nevertheless, the spider roll was rather delectable, with fragrant, crunchy hints of soft shell crab wrapped with Japanese rice in seaweed, topped with fish roe.

Zaru Soba [RM8.50]

Zaru Soba was just as we had expected. Simple and easy to down with a decent blend of soy sauce dip to accompany it.

The gNOMes had Chawan Mushi [RM5.00], Niku Udon [RM17.50] and Grilled Sishamo [RM7.50] as well, but we felt that they were rather forgettable and fared just alright.

Verdict : The gNOMes felt that the prices here were not worth it for the quality of food received. If such prices were to be maintained, the gNOMes expect a lot more.
