Washoku Den Den, Oasis Square, Ara Damansara

Nobody ever gets bored of Japanese food, yes? Neither do we! Though gNOMe 1 is a bigger Jap food fan than gNOMe 2. 🙂

When the craving strikes, both gNOMes were on a hunt for a new Japanese eatery. We are pretty much tired of the usuals, so a new change is indeed refreshing.

Bistro Den Den, located at Oasis Square in Ara Damansara, features a wide spread of Japanese food from sashimi cuts to bento boxes to feed one’s cravings. A coincidence that a Japan flag is placed right beside Bistro Den Den? 😉

Sashimi 3 Kinds [RM29]

3 types of freshly-cut sashimi, a standard fare and must order for gNOMes in every Japanese restaurant. This one actually has sweet prawns in them but the gNOMes changed it to salmon instead. The sashimi were fresh and as expected.

Salmon Avocado Salad [RM19]

A bed of fresh greens with cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, avocado slices and thin slices of salmon. gNOMe 2’s comfort food. Greens were fresh and crispy, so were the cherry tomatoes and bell peppers. The slices of salmon added a nice touch to the rather plain salad. The salad dressing was more on the watery and ‘light‘ side, and gNOMe 2 prefers her dressings to be flavourful and viscous. The avocado slices were a tad inconsistent. Some were just of the right texture and creaminess, some a little too unripe and hard.

Teoke Salmon Bowl [RM24]

A generous serving of salmon to accompany the rice. Some salmon roe as well to keep it classy. Since gNOMe 1 loves salmon roe, this pretty much gets the nod. They do provide the wasabi and light soy sauce on the sides instead of adding them in so one can add on according to his/her own preferences.

Teriyaki Chicken Rice [RM24]

The chicken texture was overall quite hard. Perhaps it was a tad overcooked. Had it been tender enough, it would’ve been well-complemented by the rather well-made teriyaki sauce. The main star in this set was instead the “side dish“, the Chawan Mushi . That was really good as it had the right amount of savoury and the perfect steamed egg texture.

Verdict : Overall this place had decent Japanese food, nevertheless the gNOMes did not feel that the price was worth the taste. The ambiance is cosy though, and the service is decent.
