Chuup, Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya

Chuup, coca cola! 😛 Well, that was exactly what we had in mind when we stumbled upon this place.

Anyways, Chuup is now 1 years old! 😀

Located at Damansara Jaya, Chuup is a small, cosy restaurant featuring a fusion of local and western cuisines. Patrons in Chuup comprises mostly of families getting their family time together over dinner.

The restaurant is divided into two sections, the air-conditioned section and the outside smoking section. Waiters at Chuup are very attentive and pleasant.

Chuup Nasi Lemak with Pork Rendang [RM 14.90]/Fried Chicken [RM 15.90]

A plate of fragrant santan rice with acar, eggs, blanched kangkung, anchovies and home made sambal. The firm, plumpy santan infused grains were indeed fragrant, and had a beautiful texture. Definitely not soggy, the rice was indeed what the gNOMes envisioned a good plate of nasi lemak should have.

But perhaps the rice and sambal set a standard too high for the chicken, which was neither crispy nor fragrant enough. But that should not spoil what is a very good Nasi Lemak dish!

Grandma’s Pork Chuup [RM 18.90]

Chuup’s own version of Pork Chop. Shallow fried marinated pork loin served with homemade egg spinach and potato carrot ragout.

While the pork chop is sweet and fairly crispy to the bite, the egg spinach is a good side dish. However the sauce made for the potato carrot ragout is truly what makes this dish, “grandma’s recipe”.

For a deep fried version, one can opt for Chuup’s Deep Fried Pork Chuup [RM 18.90] with homemade tangy Hainanese sauce.

Spicy Shrimp Spaghettini [RM 18.90]

Spaghettini, shrimps, garlic, serai and dried chilli lightly sautéed in garlic & chilli infused olive oil. One thing that Chuup does very well is their marination/flavour infusion. The pasta was beautifully flavoured with serai (lemongrass) with a underlying hint of spiciness.

Although the spaghettini was slightly overcooked, points were awarded to the fresh prawns. An abundance of prawns seasoned and sautéed. As the prawns were cooked separately from the pasta, those crustaceans will tend to retain more of the seasoning, thus may be a tad salty for some.

Verdict : Chuup generally excels at a few things. Attentive customer service, and great sauces. Truly a place to visit for comfort food. The gNOMes will be back for more
