Tim Ho Wan has finally invaded the shores of Malaysia, with their 1st store at Mid Valley KL. They recently opened their 2nd store at 1Utama, Petaling Jaya.
The gNOMes have tried the Michelin Star restaurant at Fuk Wing St, Sham Sui Po so we are expecting nothing lesser from this one at 1Utama, especially their Baked Buns with BBQ Pork 🙂 The menu in Malaysia differs from the one in Hong Kong, but fret not, their heavenly 4 still remains the same.
Baked Buns with BBQ Pork [RM 11.50]
The very dish that probably gave Tim Ho Wan its Michelin Star in Hong Kong, these baked buns do not disappoint as well. In fact, they actually nearly transported us back to Hong Kong where we first had the life-changing buns.
Pork Dumpling with Shrimp [RM 11.50]
The Siu Mai at Tim Ho Wan tasted rather average, nothing much to shout about. Not the best we have tasted.
Lean Pork, Century Egg & Salted Egg Congee [RM 10.50]
The congee lacks flavour, add seasoning to your own liking. The ingredients were scarce, just bits and pieces of century and salted egg 😦
Pork Rib with Black Bean Sauce [RM 9.30]
The pork ribs in black bean sauce was rather tender, and pretty appetizing. Though once again, not the best we have tasted.
Wasabi Salad Prawn Dumpling [RM 11.50]
Though the gNOMes didn’t expect this to be good, it was actually one of the better dishes of the day. The wasabi salad dressing made for a good complement to the dumplings.
Prawn Dumpling [RM 12.50]
The prawns dumpling was also good, but do not expect it to be better than anything that you’ve ever tasted.
[Top : Vermicelli Roll with Sweet & Sesame Sauce [RM 8.30]; Bottom : Vermicelli Roll with BBQ Pork [RM 13.60]]
The gNOMes actually rather enjoyed the rolls. Especially the BBQ pork vermicelli roll. This one had the gNOMes feeling happy.
Pan Fried Carrot Cake [RM 10.50]
This carrot cake was also one of our favorites of the day, as the radish taste really stood out in the cake. Pair it with a decent Kg. Koh Chili sauce and you’re all set.
Verdict : Overall the experience we had at the 1Utama outlet is much better than our experience at Hong Kong, bar the baked pork bun. It is a good representation of the famous branch here, plus the location is much less better for PJ peeps as compared to MidValley. But nevertheless, with that being said, dim sum at Tim Ho Wan carries a slightly hefty price tag. Bear in mind that not all dishes will impress, only some will.
