Thai Thai, Sunway Pyramid, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya

Sunway Pyramid is a mall which both gNOMes rarely head to. So one fine occasion lead them to Sunway Pyramid. So of course, this calls for a foodie trip!

We were contemplating on Ole Ole Bali or Thai Thai, and in the end, our Thai cravings won! 😀

Place was fully packed around 8pm, but we got lucky as a family left right after we waited for a couple of minutes or so. The first glance at this restaurant screams an ‘Absolute Thai’ decor and feel, and we were right.

Thai Thai is indeed owned by Absolute Thai, though we are not too sure why they don’t just call it Absolute Thai? Beats me. Hmmm. The interior decor is very similar to Absolute Thai, providing the necessary vibe and ambiance for a good meal. A mix of industrial rustic + modern decor.

[Left to Right : Plain Water [RM 4.00]; Iced Thai Milk Tea [RM 11.00]]

Thai Thai does not serve plain water here, so patrons are required to buy their bottled drinking water.

On the other hand, the Iced Thai Milk Tea albeit pretty expensive, is rather good. Sweet no doubt, but that’s the way most Thais drink their Thai Milk Tea. Sweet and rich. One please! 😀

Tom Yam Talay [RM 34.90 – firepot for 2 pax]

The first impression was that this was good, due to the thickness of the broth. However, soon the gNOMes felt that it was just alright, because of the distinct lack of spiciness as well as sourness.

Phad Kra Pao Tao Hoo [RM 17.90]

Stir fried local bean curd with hot basil leaves. Although packed with basil leaves, it didn’t exactly translate into a very fragrant dish in our books. Though this dish does not really stand out, at least it caters to those who can’t tolerate too much spicy food.

Gaeng Panaeng [RM 30.00]

Rich Panang curry with chicken, coconut milk & sweet basil leaves. If the Tom yum was lacking in spiciness, we guess that this is where it all went to. This was a little better, but having tried the best (in our books) at KomPassion, that had too much to live up to. And oh, they should seriously put in more effort in the art of plating.

Verdict : Overall promising a lot but nothing in particular stood out for the gNOMes. Nothing too spectacular though the dishes come with a pretty hefty price tag. We would prefer to go to Absolute Thai instead if we had to choose.
