Just barely 4 months old, Hungry Bunch, situated at Sunway Pyramid, aims to please the crowd with a plethora of western & local dishes. Budget conscious shoppers can fill their tummies here at Hungry Bunch after hours of shopping.
With a pretty extensive menu to offer, Hungry Bunch also serves set lunches on both weekdays and weekends. Set lunches comes with a bowl of mushroom soup for starters, a drink, a main course and a plate of banana split to end the meal. Prices start from RM 26++ onwards. For the small appetite foodies, you may want to opt for Ala Carte instead of the set lunches.
Drinks are reasonably priced (for a shopping mall), and in general quite refreshing as well. The Tropicana Elderflower is an acquired taste though, as one gNOMe preferred it to the other.
Breaded calamari deep fried to a golden brown finish, served hot with a slice of lemon for that zesty twang and mayonnaise. The calamaris were breaded nicely, the batter not too thin nor thick, and deep fried just the way it’s supposed to be. Eat it while it’s hot, and taste the crunchiness of the batter, followed by the bite of the sweet calamari.
This bowl of mushroom soup is made in house, and not straight from the can. Thick, creamy with bits of mushroom topped with croutons. Albeit slightly too creamy for our liking (we prefer more mushrooms in our soup 😛), this bowl of soup emits the hearty factor one can find.
While it says Kelantan-style, perhaps the only Kelantanese thing about it was the cut of meat which was boneless and juicy. Other than that, there wasn’t the characteristic milkiness and sweetness of the Kelantan Percik, appearing to be more of a Klang Valley percik sauce. Nevertheless, taste-wise this was one of the good dishes here. The spices and tender meat combining to provide a good combination.
A plate of olive oil tossed pasta here at Hungry Bunch is priced at RM 10.00. Patrons may choose to up their game by adding Beef Rashers, Chicken Pastrami [RM 5.00], Seafood, Smoked Duck & Smoked Salmon [RM 8.00]. The pasta served to us was slightly too soggy, and slightly over seasoned, making the whole dish wet and salty. Perhaps it was just an off day for them, we hope to sample their Carbonara one day.
This set meal came with a bowl of mushroom soup, a glass of zesty lemon grass drink and banana split. The first thing was that the lemon was surprisingly more juicy than other cuts of lemon we’ve seen. But the gNOMes were taken aback at the fries served, as it hardly fit the level of dish being served here. Perhaps it would’ve been much better to substitute it with mashed potatoes, which makes it better for plating as well. Nevertheless, take nothing away from the salmon, as it was grilled nicely, with the skin having a good level of crispiness, the meat retaining its juiciness as well.
The banana split is only served with set meals. A scoop of chocolate and vanilla ice cream each, with a banana to go with. Was a little bit melted when it came, taste-wise it was the standard fare.
Rich chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache served with vanilla ice cream. This was actually good, and it had the gNOMes scrambling over it. A good litmus test would always be the lava, and boy did it spill out when the gNOMes sliced it open. Yums!
Verdict : This place has everything under the sun, and if one cannot decide what to eat, this place caters for most. Generally reasonably-priced and targeting the student population in Sunway. Oh, and the food is served relatively fast as well, which makes it good when one is on the go.
