Prologue by Awesome Canteen, Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya

One year ago, both gNOMes paid a visit to Awesome Canteen. And this time, we are headed to Prologue by Awesome Canteen. Located just right beside Awesome Canteen, Prologue is hard to miss. So since Awesome Canteen serves Western food, Prologue decided to go Asian.

gNOMe 2 follows Prologue on Instagram, and their pictures no doubt are lovely and so enticing. Specializing in Japanese food, the menu had gNOMe 1 at Ramen.

Roast Premium Pork Belly Slices [RM 6.90]

This was quite nice, and would be popular with the porky enthusiasts, as it has the full porkiness in 6 generous slices, and to top, crispy skin which  makes it all fall together in the right places. A good appetizer.

Pirikara Buta Ramen [RM 13.90 – Small; RM19.90 – Regular]

gNOMe 1 ordered a small bowl of premium roast pork belly with wakame, negi, ajitama in spicy, tonkotsu broth. Though the broth was fragrant, perhaps they could’ve done with a lot lesser salt. The gNOMes certainly struggled to overcome it, because the good work done with the chashu and the sesame oil/seeds was all undone by the saltiness of the soup.

Matcha Ramen with Braised Pork [RM 15.90 – Small; RM 22.90 – Regular]

House braised pork belly with wakame, negi, ajitama in matcha tonkotsu broth. The pork belly had a strong taste of vinegar, which would be popular with vinegar pig’s trotters enthusiasts. The matcha-flavored soup was also quite well balanced, making this dish more enjoyable than the previous one. The gNOMes’ only gripe is how cooked the ajitama is.

Yakitori Onsen Don [RM 18.90]

A bowl of Japanese steamed rice with grilled chicken with sweet chili padi soya sauce topped with onsen egg. With a little kick. The chef has decided to throw in some chilli padi (Bird’s eye chilli) to spice things up. Loved it! The shoyu しょうゆ (soy sauce) used here is absolutely fragrant and not too salty, with the chilli padi giving it the necessary heat and kick. Beat the onsen in and you are good to go! However, gNOMe 2 felt that the grilled chicken was slightly overcooked, a little bit hard and lacking the tenderness.

Verdict : Overall a mixed bag, as some things are done very well, but the ramen slightly disappointed gNOMe 1. Price-wise, the gNOMes felt that the ramen was on the pricey side, as even after consuming 2 bowls of small gNOMe  1 didn’t feel full.
