Restaurant New Peng Wah, SS22, Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya

Home cooked food is always very welcomed for the gNOMes. Being away from home long enough makes us long for mum’s cooking served with a hot plate of rice. The gNOMes have visited a few good places, and this is one of them.

New Peng Wah

Boasting a spacious, modern and clean interior, this family restaurant is the newer variant of its original roots, which was called Restoran Peng Wah. Apparently the owner here is the son of the aforementioned restaurant.

Restaurant New Peng Wah also has branches in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.

New Peng Wah

Signature Lala Soup [RM 16.00 – Small, RM 48.00 – Extra Large]

An extra large serving of Lala from the philipines, this was a typically nourishing soup. The lala was fat and juicy, while the soup had all the right balance of peppery, and sweet. This soup is a little on the spicy side though, so be prepared!

New Peng Wah

New Peng Wah

Signature Deep Fried Ma Yau (Senangin) [RM 6.00 for 100g]

Threadfin fish, in their signature soy sauce. This deep fried fish produced an impressively crunchy and sweet flavor, leaving the gNOMes salivating and wanting more. Sold by the weight, this is definitely worth every pound (or gram)!

New Peng Wah

Signature Potato Fried Pork [RM 25.00 – Large]

Thinly-sliced pork in a multitude of even more thinly-sliced potatoes. Don’t let its looks fool you, this dish is one of the comfort foods in this restaurant. Most ideal for a cold, rainy day outside. With sweet and tender pork slices, it’s one the gNOMes would order again.

New Peng Wah

Stewed Grouper Fish Head [RM 48.00 – Large]

Stewed grouper fish head in black bean paste, served in a claypot with heavy signs of garlic as well. This stewed grouper was a little bit underwhelming for us, as it may be an acquired taste.

New Peng Wah

Claypot Hua Tiew Wine Chicken [RM 30.00 – Large]

Wine chicken in Chinese cooking wine-based sauce and ginger, one can hardly go wrong. Adding sweet and tender chicken to the mix, is what wine chicken is all about. It was so good that everyone around the table was fighting to get the last bite of it!

New Peng Wah

Homestyle Claypot Brinjal [RM 28.00 – Large]

This mushy, brinjal-based dish is specifically designed to be a type of comfort food. It has an almost paste-like texture and can be eaten by even babies or those with newly-installed dental braces. Only for serious fans of eggplant, as its flavor is the one thing that stands out strongly from the mix.

New Peng Wah

Signature Sliced Pork with Nyonya Sauce [RM 28.00 – Large]

The nyonya sauce was sufficiently sweet and sour, and the tender pork slices along with the okra were sufficiently coated the delightful sauce. The gNOMes wouldn’t mind ordering this dish again.

New Peng Wah

Cantonese Style Hor Fun [RM 18.00 – Large]

A typical serving of cantonese style hor fun, this would be the common fare one could get in most “big wok” restaurants.

Verdict : Overall a nice place to be when one craves for a good Chinese meal (dishes and rice). The gNOMes have been here before this and would be back again as well. Come with your family and your friends, enjoy a good old fashioned Chinese meal.

  1. I know for certain a few kaki makan friends of mine would certainly know how to appreciate this eatery. And the price is quite reasonable too. Thanks for recommending the place.

  2. The restaurant name sounds familiar to me. Great Chinese food they have. I am sure my parents will love these if they come visiting me from Sabah. Thanks for the review~
