The Garden NOM’s 2015 Favorites

Really? 365 days has passed? 😀

As they say, time flies when you are having fun, and it is time to close another chapter on what was a productive year for the gNOMes. What is a year end without a review/recap, right?

With this, we present to you, our Top 10 Finds for Year 2015 (in no particular order whatsoever) 😀

Best Fine Dining

This boutique-cum-restaurant owned by Martell whips up a quality meal for the picky food gNOMe. The food on offer tastes as good as it looks, or even better. Bring your family and friends whom you want to impress and leave looking good. For a fine dining category place, the prices are actually much more reasonable as the portions are larger than usual.

Waltz your way elegantly into : Elegantology Gallery & Restaurant, Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur

Best Italian

Serving an excellent selection of food and being equally capable of satisfying both the adventurous and the traditionalist, this restaurant excels at all forms of Italian food without exception. From appetizers to pastas and pizzas to rabbit meat, one is bound to be in for a treat!

Mamma Mia! : Fuzio Bar & Restaurant, Changkat Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Best Cafe Scene

When looking for a cafe, the gNOMes look for 2 things: Good coffee and good food. This cafe has great food, and a seasonal selection of coffee beans sourced from nano planters all around the world. The only thing that is needed is a great concept, CHECK that as well!

To meet the great Wizard : Yellow Brick Road & Wicked Pancake Parlour, Jalan Batai, Kuala Lumpur

Best Ramen

Kanbe Ramen

Roll over tonkotsu broth ramen, the gNOMes never knew shoyu ramen could taste this good! Still one of our favorite places to visit every now and then, this ramen specialty shop originates from Kobe. Known for their Mega Ramen Challenge, some say you may see Sakura after dining here!

Find your sakura here : Ramen Kanbe Restaurant, Empire Damansara, Damansara Perdana

Planet Conscious

Plate Culture

The PlateCulture dining experience is an excellent one. Dining with Chef CY at Garden to Table showed us a glimpse of what sustainability looks like. Her dedication to quality is not just inspiring but it translates into the quality of her food as well.

Get close to nature here : Garden To Table, Section 14, Petaling Jaya

Best Cheap Eats

Uncle Don

Want to have a selection of wonderful Malaysian Delights while drinking a pint or 2 with friends? Slightly tight financially for the month? Look no further. Bringing you 40 years of experience in the food business, Chef Don Theseira cooks up a storm which can be enjoyed by all.

Dine like a Don : Uncle Don’s, SS2, Petaling Jaya

Most Friendly Coffee Experience

Fear not if you stumble upon car workshops and factories while searching for this place, you’re on the right track to the least intimidating coffee experience you will have. Extremely friendly and down-to-earth baristas will explain to you and cater to preferences as you attempt to dive into the world of coffee. Being a roaster for over 30 years, they know their stuff as well. A place of learning but also a place where you can just go, “Kopi O satu!” and not be mocked.

See the light : BEAM, Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Best Comfort Seafood

B & Best Seafood Noodle

Don’t let not-so-catchy the name fool you, this place serves up one of the best food in town. Already a household name among locals in the area, so this has some serious credibility. If fresh fish is what you need, this is the remedy! Thank us later!

Trust me : B&Best Seafood Noodle, Restaurant De Rasa Sayang, Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya

Best Braised Teochew Duck

Kedai Masakan Itek Taika Huat

Not just one of the better things the gNOMes have had this year, but also one of the most satisfying meals in recent memory. This shop has been around for quite a while as well. The braised duck is filleted and boneless, while the pork dish in the top left corner of the collage is TO DIE FOR. This itself is worth going to JB for.

Experience Southern Flavors : Kedai Masakan Itek Taika Huat, Skudai, Johor Bahru

Best Softserve

P.S. Tokyo Cafe

In a day and age where even our ice-cream has specific terminology, soft serve is rapidly becoming a firm favorite. Not a new player to the “ice-cream scene”, it seems to be more popular than its more “atas” cousin – the gelato. P.S. Tokyo serves up satisfying Japanese-inspired flavors, within a picturesque setting. What’s more, they have a machine to print out your Instagram cafe selfies.

P.S. Try it out! : PS Tokyo Cafe, SS2, Petaling Jaya

And there we have it, The Garden NOM’s 2015 picks! We hope you enjoyed reading it! Feel free to leave a comment to suggest more ideas to us!

Until then, Eat lots & Prosper! Blessed New Year! 😉
