Sisters Place, Pacific Place, Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Branching out from their main outlet, Sisters Char Kuay Teow at USJ 16 and with 6 years under their belt dishing out various Penang delicacy to residents in the Klang Valley, Sisters Place, now located in Ara Damansara in Petaling Jaya, promises to deliver the same to the folks in the Petaling Jaya vicinity.

Hailing from Penang, gNOMe 2 is a champion and a sucker for good Penang hawker fare. Nothing here can come close to the ones back home, so the search for good Penang food continues.

And with the current economy, cheap eats are most welcome 😛 Located at a rather quieter side of Ara Damansara, Sisters Place is actually facing Evolve Mall, the new shopping mall beside Pacific Place.

Sisters Char Kuey Teow [RM 8.50]

We started our dinner for that particular day with of course, the much anticipated Penang fare. A few criteria we seek for which we deem a good plate of Char Kuey Teow :

  • WOK HEI! (the aroma and fragrance that can only come from food fried in a hot wok)
  • Decent level of spiciness
  • Crunchy beansprouts!

At Sisters, they definitely serve up a pretty authentic experience. All 3 criteria were satisfied. It was probably the best dish of the night. Even our 2 Penangites gave it a PASS. 😀

Penang Curry Mee [RM 8.50]

When it came to the table, gNOMe 2 remarked that the color seemed to be “legit“. Adding the sambal is necessary before feasting. Turns out that although it was promising, it was slightly on the oily side, which wasn’t too much to our liking.

Kong Poh Squid Rice [RM 10.90]

This was a choice deemed interesting by gNOMe 2’s brother. Savoury squid (which turned out to be cuttlefish) served in a slightly less viscous than usual kong poh (aka kung pow) sauce, this dish proved to be quite a good one. Even though gNOMe 2’s brother wasn’t a big fan of cuttlefish, he still enjoyed it quite a fair bit.

Koay Teow Soup [RM 8.50]

Koay Teow Soup has always been the dish to order if one is in need of a bowl of comfort soup noodles. The soup here did not disappoint, though it wasn’t the best we have tried. Rather comforting, and a good option for a rainy night too.

Verdict : If one is missing authentic Penang Char Kuey Teow but unable to return to Penang anytime soon, look no further than this place for your fix. Dare we say, it is pretty close to Penang standard! OH, and this place is also PORK FREE!
