Mama San, KLCC
With the evening beckoning and weekend just around the corner, we settled in all comfy and cozy awaiting to just unwind and relax.
The brain child of Chef Will Meyrick, Mama San whips up Asian dishes – but with a twist. With recipes handed down generations after one another, and combining with the play of various spices and flavours, Mama San prides in the Asian Fusion dishes.
Mama San in KLCC is the 3rd outlet, with the other two respectively in Bali and Hong Kong.
Soft Shell Crab Rojak Salad [RM 25.00]
Imagine – Soft Shell Crab accompanied by your favourite Rojak Salad. All the fresh condiments with generous helping of Rojak sauce and served with crunchy Soft Shell Crab. What’s not to love? The whole combination was a play of robust flavours.
Crispy Sotong [RM 32.00]
Lightly battered and deep fried, the sotong was done just right. Crunchy texture on the outside, with some heat coming from the chilli sauce it’s served with.
Dendeng Balado [RM 55.00]
This Indonesian inspired short ribs are to die for! Tender and juicy beef ribs cooked to perfection in caramelized palm sugar and herbs, then pan fried for that crispy outer texture, and finally, topped with kaffir lime leaves and lemon basil. Squeeze in the lime for that twangy note, and prepare to dig in. LOVED IT!
Kari Udang Nenas [RM 38.00]
Mild pineapple curry with luscious fresh prawns. With rather mild heat, this curry based dish is suitable to those looking for something less adventurous and safe.
Butter Chicken [RM 45.00]
Hailing from India, this dish took us all by surprised! The creamy and buttery texture of the sauce, enveloping the juicy tender chicken pieces. We were all fighting over it, even the last piece wasn’t spared! One may also pair this dish with fragrant Jasmine Rice [RM 8.00] or Cheese Naan [RM 14.00].
Tandoori Fish [RM 55.00]
Served with fresh salad and mint dip sauce, the tandoori fish unfortunately did not impress. Slightly over cooked, the fish appeared to be dry and flaky.
Nutella Buns with Vanilla Ice Cream & Kintamani Espresso [RM 18.00]
Now, onwards to dessert! A first for us, buns stuffed with nutella. However, the texture was a tad too hard and rough for us, although the Vanilla Ice Cream & Kintamani Espresso was
Durian Panna Cotta with White Sticky Rice & Vanilla Cream [RM 20.00]
Being avid fans of our local delicacy, this however did not manage to impress us at the first bite. The initial layer of Panna Cotta was slightly too densed for our liking, but on the contrary, the bottom layer was light and fluffy. We had mixed reviews over this.
Verdict : We had a fantastic time feasting at Mama San, and if we may add, our favourites for that night – Soft Shell Crab Rojak Salad, Dendeng Balado & Butter Chicken, is a must order. The price may appear too steep for one, but rest be assured, it will be very worth it at the end of the day.
