Rendezvous Corner, SS15, Subang Jaya

Long weekends are ideally spent chowing down food, making the palates and tummy happy, and end the day with a good book or a good movie at the cineplex. Firstly, gNOMe 2 would like to thank the owners of Rendezvous Corner for having her and a couple of friends over for dinner over the weekend. 😀

Located at SS15 Subang Jaya, right opposite Taylor’s Canadian Pre-University, Rendezvous Corner is IMPOSSIBLE to miss. Formerly known as ‘Salmon Steak’, a wave of refurbishment has now re-branded ‘Salmon Steak’ into ‘Rendezvous Corner’. Parking lots in front of the shop are aplenty, but if you are familiar with SS15, getting a parking spot after night falls can prove to be a pain in the neck.

Loving the wallpaper and cutesy posters actually. Provides a rather cozy environment while dining.

Tropical Fruit Tea (RM9.80 per pot). A pot of apple, passion fruit, orange and lemon infused tea. This pot of tea is said to improve appetite, good for digestive tract and immune system and at the same time rich in vitamins and minerals. The tea tasted heavily of passion fruit, and slightly sweet. Hot water refill at RM0.80.

Cappuccino (RM7.80). Freshly brewed by the barista, with a different take to foam art. The froth was rather too thick for gNOMe 2’s liking, and actually overshadowing the cup of joe. Thinner froth will actually bring out the fragrance of the coffee even better.

Escargot (RM11.80 for half a dozen). The escargots were pretty yummy, with thick creamy mozarella cheese and garlic spread. The plate of molluscs were fresh and juicy, making it a rather appetising appetizer.

Potato Skin (RM7.80). Oven baked potato skin with stuffings, topped with a layer of mozarella cheese and herbs. A rather gracious layer of cheese melted on top of the stuffing, which gNOMe 2 appreciates as she is a big fan of cheese. Though gNOMe 2 would prefer the skin to be slightly crispier, as the skin will turn soggy almost immediately because of the cheese.

Chicken Satay Burger (RM13.80). An interesting Western meets Malaysian fusion burger. Instead of the usual commercialized burger buns, Rendezvous Corner uses Ketupat as the burger buns. And the patties are smothered with Satay Sauce. Brilliant isn’t it? Satay sauce is homemade, with rich chunky peanut texture. A complimentary bowl of peanut sauce topped with sambal comes with the burger for those of you who can’t get enough of it! So Malaysian-ish and gNOMe 2 loves it!

Fried Cheesy Chicken (RM15.80). Rendezvous Corner’s take of Chicken Cordon Bleu. Breaded chicken ham stuffed with mozzarella cheese, deep fried and served with criss cut fries and coleslaw. The cheesy chicken wasn’t oily, thus making it pleasant for any health conscious patrons. Generous with mozzarella cheese stuffing which overflows once pried open. This dish is indeed palatable, satisfying ones’ cravings for Chicken Gordon Bleu.

Cheese Fondue Chicken (RM16.80). Cheese-y goodness overload! A pot of bubbling hot mozzarella cheese awaiting one to sink their teeth in. Served with criss cut fries, broccoli, carrot cuts, steam bun and fried fillet chicken. Dunk a piece meat in the bubbling cheese dip and just enjoy the goodness of the cheese fondue. One may also opt for fried fillet fish instead.

Chocolate Fondue (RM12.80). Sliced fresh fruits, marshmallows and biscuits. And a bowl of warm chocolate. Chocolate fondues are usually the sweet treat to seal a beautiful meal. If you can’t get enough of their fondues and yet want to pass on the cheese-y stuff, get your hands on these. Fruits are fresh, though gNOMe 2 would prefer a tad more variety.

Red Velvet Cupcake (RM4.80). Cupcakes for the sweet tooth? 😉 The cupcakes albeit looking pretty, tasted rather dry with crumbly textures. 😦 It would be great if these pretty cupcakes are stored properly in cling wraps or zip lock bags to retain the moisture.

Chocolate Lava Cake (RM6.80). Warm pastry with molten lava chocolate in the middle, served with coconut ice cream on the side. It is actually brilliant to be serving coconut ice cream instead of the usual vanilla, as the coconut ice cream gave an interesting twist to the chocolate lava cake. The pastry was nicely done, not too dense nor too heavy, with generous filling. This dessert is perfect to complete the meal.

Verdict : A cozy place for a quick meal, or for catch up sessions with buddies. Go for the chef’s recommendations and you will not be left disappointed. Unbeknownst to many, Rendezvous Corner opens until 2am daily and caters for those seeking a cuppa or some shisha sesh.
