Dae Jang Gum, SS4, Petaling Jaya

Hi fellow gNOMers! We apologized for the lack of update as we were busy preparing for our Japanese exams. 😦 We took the exams this morning and ta-da! We both passed with flying colors! πŸ˜€ This calls for a celebration eh? πŸ˜€

Anyhow, this time round, we will be talking about this relatively new Korean Restaurant that’s located at SS4, Petaling Jaya. One of our loyal readers actually tipped us off about this place. Thank you! πŸ™‚ So, here we go!

This particular lot was formerly occupied by Kafe Tasty Delights – Farn Chum Mei, and now is taken over by Dae Jang Gum. Oh, talking about Farn Chum Mei, we have gotten word of their new business location. We can’t wait to get our hands on the oh-so-yummy pork noodles again. Will be sharing with you gNOMers on their new location! πŸ˜€ Sorry for digressing!

Now, who’s up for some Korean food?

A variety of banchans to get one started. Places with very generous amount of banchans automatically earns brownie points from us.

Kimchi Jjigae [RM 22.00]

We love our Kimchi Jjigae, so we are constantly going around to find good ones. Currently the best Kimchi Jjigae we have had is at Dae Jang Gum at Section 14. Yums! Thick and generous in portion, this was set up to be a major hit. However the taste slightly differed from what the gNOMes were expecting. It was just alright for us.

Jjamppong [RM 22.00]

A bowl of spicy noodle soup anyone? One that intrigued us to try due to the presence of succulent seafood. However the soup isn’t very intense in flavor. The gNOMes would give it a pass next time.

Maeun Samgyeopsal Gui [RM 38.00]

Almost a mandatory order in every Korean BBQ seating. This platter of spicy grilled pork belly slice is marinated overnight in their special spicy sauce. The marination is quite nice to have and generally making a decent order.

Dwaeji Maksal [RM 33.00]

However the grilled pork neck meat was quite a bit of a let down. It was hard to find any real taste to this and it significantly paled in comparison to most of the other Korean BBQ places the gNOMes have dined in.

Verdict : The food and pricing here both conspire to discourage the gNOMes from paying a second visit. Overall it has a nice selection of side dishes, but otherwise we would give it a pass.
