Bungkus, Empire Damansara, Damansara Perdana

Bungkus, situated on the 1st floor of Empire Damansara, is run by a cute Korean family. Why Bungkus? That’s what we wondered too. Apparently Mr Park took a liking to the word ‘Bungkus‘, hence the name.

Both gNOMes were attracted to this place, as Bungkus markets itself as a Contemporary Korean cafe. A place whereby one can sit and chill for hours, and Bungkus has the rather comfy environment to dine in.

[Left to Right : Cafe Latte [RM 9.90]; Avocado Juice [RM 13.90]]

Coffees are Bungkus are from Doi Chang beans, and while the foam tasted a little bitter, the coffee was actually really smooth. In fact it is up there with some of the smoothest we have had. The milk was fragrant as well. Overall a good cuppa.

The Avocado juice tasted decent, though lacking sugar. Perhaps for a healthier alternative in view of all the sugary drinks we consume these days. 🙂

Kimchi Bulgogi Rice Burger [RM 12.90]

One of Bungkus’ best sellers. Their rice burgers. Instead of usual burger buns, the chef uses Korean rice and sandwiched a mixture of Kimchi Bulgogi in between. The rice has seaweed bits for the fragrance, though lacking a bit of seasoning. The Kimchi Bulgogi was nicely seasoned, though tasted a tad dry.

Spicy Chicken Noodle [RM 10.90]

Kimchi based chicken with noodles and cabbages, topped with seaweed. The chicken tasted nice, with a kimchi seasoning that the gNOMes liked. However the noodles were a little too starchy for our liking, and did taste a little like having instant noodles.

Bulgogi Beef Noodle [RM 11.90]

Pan seared bulgogi beef with noodles and cabbages, topped off with seaweed strips. The beef tasted decent, but unfortunately, the whole combination was quite a let down. The base of the soup tasted like it came from maggie mee seasoning powder, and the noodles are definitely maggie mee. Not something the gNOMes would go back for. 😦

Verdict : Overall, the coffee here was the best thing that we have tried. We didn’t manage to try the bingsu. The rice burger also could be better. Perhaps they would do better in their barbecue nights which they have monthly upstairs.
